A Little About Us........
CHEMICALS!
Harsh.... cancer causing... skin drying chemicals!
Yep, that is what got me started down this road of making natural, handmade soap and hoping to help others by offering my knowledge through the products that I create! Let me go back a little and explain...
I have always long suspected that the liquid body washes and the bar soaps that everyone buys on the grocery store shelves were doing more harm and causing more damage to my skin than anyone was talking about. Yeah, sure... they do their job and were "cleaning" my skin, but they weren't moisturizing and nurturing it to help keep it supple, elastic and healthy. In fact, while cleaning my skin, they were also stripping away all of the glycerin and moisture-rich nutrients from my skin which made skin feel dried-out and itchy. To remedy the problem of dry, itchy skin, I resorted to using lotions and creams to try keeping my skin healthy and feeling supple and smooth.
In early 2020 during the initial hysteria of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, and after performing a LOT of research into soap and the "mass produced" manufacturing processes used by the big name label companies, I began understanding that the cycle of products that I was using was "by design and intention" of the big soap companies to force everyone to buy more products... hence, making the large companies richer by increasing their profit base across multiple products!
The more I learned, and the longer I thought about it, the more enraged I became that the big soap companies are chasing greed (and creating health and skin problems in the process) rather than trying to provide good, healthy products for people! In addition to wanting to help improve my own skin, I also wanted to help my parents as much as I could (my mom has painful psoriasis on her scalp, arms and hands). With this solid realization, I became determined to create (by my own hands) a better product that not only smelled better, but was actually better for my skin than the myriad of "synthetic detergents" that are being sold and passed-off as "soap"! I also decided to take it further by making my natural (and healthier) products available for other folks to purchase because I figured that me and my family would not be the only ones who are experiencing these problems.
A lot of time and effort goes into making handmade products. A lot of money also goes into it in the form of buying all of the natural ingredients to craft the final product! Essential oils that are pure and free of diluents are certainly not cheap, and the same can be said for the artisan skills needed to create the soaps, creams and body butters. Then there is the time needed to cure (harden) a bar of soap, which is anywhere from four (4) to six (6) weeks. Since Castille soap is made of 100% olive oil, it actually takes around 4 months to properly cure! I am aware that many folks do not know these things and it's my reason for sharing and attempting to educate other people.
